Nancy R. Schlichting practiced in Florida for 16 years before moving back to Virginia. She has concentrated her practice on corporate disputes including shareholder disputes, business dissolutions, and commercial litigation. In her commercial practice, Ms. Schlichting has defended insurance companies in Director and Officer liability cases and handles various contractual disputes, with a focus on representing individuals and corporations in real estate related litigation and banks in foreclosure, collection cases, lender liability and bankruptcy proceedings. Her previous experience includes litigation relating to health care in the areas of risk management, guardianships, licensure, credentialing and peer review, managed care, and reimbursement.

Experience

  • Represented shareholders and partners in corporate dissolutions and business disputes
  • Handled numerous foreclosures, at least half of which involved lender liability issues, bankruptcy and/or difficult collateral
  • Successfully handled cases involving difficult title and access issues 
  • Successfully defended director and officer liability lawsuits brought against homeowner and condominium associations
  • Handled difficult guardianship proceedings involving incapacitated adults
  • Served on a pro bono basis as a court-appointed guardian ad litem for abused children
  • Successfully defended will contests and handled trust litigation
  • Represented hospitals in numerous peer review proceedings to terminate physician privileges
  • Defended physicians in peer review proceedings, and has served as a Hearing Officer presiding over such proceedings
