Richard Armstrong concentrates his practice on the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, and general litigation.  Mr. Armstrong brings more than 20 years of trial practice litigating cases on behalf of his clients in a wide-range of matters.  Mr. Armstrong has tried numerous complex cases in Virginia and New York.  As native of Charlottesville, Virginia, he brings a strong record of achievement, successful advocacy for his clients, and an abiding commitment to his community. 

A graduate of Albemarle High School, Richard Armstrong practiced in Manhattan before returning to Charlottesville.  As a "double 'hoo", completing both his undergraduate work and his JD degree at the University of Virginia, Richard Armstrong has gained significant verdicts that have benefited his clients and impacted the law in Virginia.

  • Won multi-million dollar verdict in wrongful death case that was recognized as one of the top verdicts in Virginia for 2006
  • Successfully obtained verdicts for punitive damages on behalf of victims of drunk drivers
  • Has tried over 100 jury trials and has experience teaching trial advocacy techniques
  • Briefed and argued appeals in both the Supreme Court of Virginia and in the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
  • Obtained recent appellate victories that helped maintain the rights of victims in Virginia to use available evidence and procedure to fully and fairly fight for full compensation in their suits
  • Was a frequent commentator on Court TV while in New York.
  • Co-taught a clinic on habeas corpus and the death penalty at the University of Virginia School of Law

Personal

Richard Armstrong is married with two children who keep him busy with sports and school activities.  A weekend tennis player, Richard enjoys yoga, cross-country skiing, and of course, cheering on University of Virginia sports victories.
