  • December 11, 2007, Jennifer Shirkey will be a speaker for the Shenandoah Valley SHRM Chapter's December meeting discussing year end checklist items for employers' benefit plans.

Recent:

  • September 19, 2007, Jennifer Shirkey participated as guest expert on a teleseminar entitled "Employee Benefit Trends for Nonprofit Organizations". The teleseminar was presented in conjunction with Changing The World LIVE and Universal Synergy Consulting.

  • June 5, 2007, Chris Honenberger was a speaker at the American Banker Association's Regulatory Compliance Conference in Atlanta, GA. Chris participated in a panel discussion whose topic was "Risk Tolerance- What is Acceptable Risk?"

  • May, 20, 2007, Honenberger Honored with William & Mary Law School’s Citizen Lawyer Award

  • May 8, 2007, Cathy Welsh facilitated the Healthy Community Summit II, hosted at VMRC.  This summit took the indicators and themes identified in the Summit on March 6, 2006 and built consensus on community priorities for the future.

  • April 23, 2007, Cathy Welsh co-presented at a seminar entitled Human Resource Issues for the Non-Profit Institute, a professional development program for non-profit managers, created in collaboration with the Harrisonburg - Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, the Harrisonburg Rockingham United Way, JMU and the Small Business Development Center.

  • March 22, 2007, Suzanne Thomas spoke on the topic of Eminent Domain at a meeting of the Augusta County Republican Woman.

  • March 21, 2007, Cathy Welsh spoke to the Winchester Area Society for Human Resource Management, You Never Really Know Your Friends from Your Enemies Until the ICE Breaks.   Dealing with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can leave employers feeling a chill.  This presentation discussed an employer's responsibilities and recommended actions when confronted with immigration issues.

  • March 14, 2007, Jeffrey G. Lenhart was elected to serve as President-Elect of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Association for 2007-2008.  Suzanne F. Thomas was elected to serve as Treasurer of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Association for 2007-2008.

  • March 6, 2007, Cathy Welsh moderated/facilitated a community summit at which the 3rd Health of the Community Report was presented. Every five years, the Healthy Community Council conducts an extensive survey and compiles the data into a report which provides insights into key areas of our community, including; education, health and well-being, natural resources, youth and the economy. The Summit showed the community trends and key indicators and analysis of this information assisted in the creation of actions plans to ensure the best quality of life possible for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

  • March 6, 2006, Cathy Welsh facilitated the Healthy Community Summit hosted at VMRC which reported the results from the 2006 Health Community Assessment. 

  • February 13, 2007, Cathy Welsh presented a seminar on Human Resource Issues for the Non-Profit Institute, a professional development program for non-profit managers, created in collaboration with the Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, the Harrisonburg Rockingham United Way, JMU and the Small Business Development Center.

  • January 3, 2007, Cathy Welsh passed the gavel of the Chamber presidency at the Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet held at JMU Festival and Student Conference Center.

  • December 12, 2006, Cathy Welsh and Jennifer Shirkey participated in a panel discussion on FMLA at the Shenandoah Valley Society for Human Resource Management December meeting.

  • October 10, 2006, Paula Gladieux and Jennifer Shirkey spoke to the Virginia Skyline Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants regarding recent developments in retirement plans and employee benefits.

  • September 18, 2006, Jennifer Shirkey spoke at the Virginia Chapter of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources' HR Directors Retreat regarding the impact of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 on governmental retirement plans and other recent employee benefit developments.

  • September 14, 2006, Lisa Hawkins gave a presentation entitled Dollars and Sense of Conservation Easements for the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors Annual Conference

  • August 18, 2006, Cathy Welsh gave a presentation on Workers' Compensation Law with the Honorable William R. Culbreth, Deputy Commissioner of the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission, to the state conference of the Virginia Association of Occupational Health Nurses to be held in Staunton, Virginia.
